Stephenville's Honeybees finished fifth and the Yellow Jackets were eighth in their division Saturday at the Lubbock ISD Invitational cross country meet.
Presley Wall once again was the top finisher for the Honeybees, in 11th place, with a time of 12:35.0 on the two-mile course. For the SHS boys, Luis Carrillo (16:55.1) and Christian Brown (16:55.7) finished ninth and 10th, respectively on the boys 5,000-meter course.
The race was at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock, which will be the location of the regional meet on Oct. 22.
“It’s a super tough course and I’m proud of the way the kids competed,” SHS cross country coach Kristi Mayes said.
In the varsity girls final team standings, Canyon won with 25 points, followed by Hereford with 88. The Honeybees were fifth with 154, ahead of No. 6 Brownwood’s 175.
Emily Kirbo was second for the SHS girls, placing 24th (13:08.1). Amiah Rodriguez was 30th (13:24.1), followed by Daisy Richards in 35th place (13:28.5) and Anahi Rivas in 55th place (14:04.8).
Andrews won the varsity boys team title with 54 points, and Canyon was second with 63. The Yellow Jackets were eighth with 247.
Carrillo posted a time of 16:55.1 for ninth place. Brown finished in 16:55.7 for 10th.
Next for the SHS boys was Seth Garza, 54th place (18:37.2), followed by Daniel Osornio, 89th (19:43.2) and Jesus Medrano, 90th (19:44.3).
The next meet for the SHS varsity girls and boys will be Saturday at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock, starting at 12:45 p.m.
