The Stephenville Honeybees couldn’t quite get their volleyball groove going as they took on Krum Tuesday on the road.

The Honeybees, who were coming off a fourth-place finish in the Denton Ryan tournament last weekend, lost a 25-22, 25-17, 25-20 decision to the Class 4A Lady Bobcats.

“We played hard but we struggled getting into a rhythm,” SHS head coach Shay Douglas said. “(We) had some long defensive rallies but couldn’t put the ball away.”

Gabie Luccero led the Honeybees in digs with 27 and Hannah Huckabee had a team-high 20 kills.

Alee McClendon had 11 blocks and three block points, and Jayci Morton and Salette Rios had nine blocks each. Jaydi Griffin recorded a .455 hitting percentage (five out of 11).

The Honeybees slipped to 5-6 on the season in the first season with Douglas as their head coach.

In the junior varsity match Tuesday, SHS defeated Krum’s JV, 25-23, 19-25, 25-14. The SHS ninth grade A team won a 25-8, 25-10 decision, and the ninth grade B team lost to Krum, 25-16, 25-17.

The Honeybees are playing in the Granbury Classic Chevrolet Tournament, which began Thursday and features 28 teams divided into seven pools (A through F).

The Honeybees are in Pool D, along with Lake Dallas, Lubbock High School and East Lake. In today’s (Saturday, Aug. 18) bracket play, action is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
