The Stephenville Honeybees brought home fourth place Saturday from the Denton high school volleyball tournament, losing in the third-place game in the championship bracket.

The bracket play followed two days of pool play that began on Thursday. 

On Saturday, coach Shay Douglas’s Honeybees opened play in the championship bracket with a 19-25, 25-22, 25-19 victory over Frisco Centennial, a Class 5A Division I school.

Next the Honeybees lost to Class 5A Division II Lubbock Cooper, 25-15, 16-26, 25-15.

Then Stephenville’s squad closed out its play in the tournament with a 22-25, 25-17, 29-27 loss to Class 5A Division I Denton High.

In Stephenville’s pool play on Thursday, the Honeybees defeated Flower Mound Coram Deo Academy 25-13, 25-10, then topped West Mesquite 25-9, 25-13. The Honeybees then lost to Dallas Woodrow Wilson, 30-28, 20-25, 25-17.

In their pool play matches Friday, the Honeybees lost to Red Oak 25-21, 27-25 then beat Denton Braswell 25-20, 25-19 and Pottsboro 25-18, 25-8.

So far this season, the Honeybees are 5-5 and are scheduled to play at Krum on Tuesday, Aug. 14.
