The Stephenville Yellow Jackets took on Iowa Park in a non-district baseball contest on the road Thursday and were held to three hits in a 5-1 loss.
The loss snapped a two-game win streak for the Jackets, who defeated Waxahachie Life School on the road Monday, 8-2, in a District 8-4A contest.
The Jackets (2-3 in district and 8-10-2 overall) will resume district play Tuesday at home, taking on Glen Rose.
In the win over Life School, the Jackets erased an early 1-0 deficit with a flurry of scoring in the late innings. They scored one in the fourth, two in the sixth and three in the seventh.
SHS out-hit Life School 9-8, getting two hits from Gabe Moore and two runs batted in from Gage Graham. Kade Averhoff recorded a double for the Jackets.
Daniel Luna earned the win as the starting picther for the Jackets, and was relieved by Caleb Smith in the fifth.
Luna gave up four hits in 4 2/3 innings, striking out seven and walking three. Smith pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowing four hits while striking our four and walking none.
Against Iowa Park, the Jackets got doubles from Derek Gifford and Daniel Luna, and the other hit was a single by Trevor Easter.
Cody Storrs recorded a couple of stolen bases and scored the only run for the Jackets in the third inning, breaking a scoreless tie.
The Hawks had six hits, but also benefitted from four SHS errors. Iowa Park notched one run in the bottom of the third to tie the game. The Hawks added their other four runs in the fourth, getting a two-run triple in the mix.
Mason Castleberry started on the mound and took the loss for the Jackets. He gave up five hits and four runs in four innings, while striking out four and walking five.
Zane Smith pitched the final two innings and allowed just one hit while striking out two.
