Stephenville’s girls soccer team captured its first-ever outright district championship with a 2-0 road victory over Abilene Wylie.

The District 4-4A victory improved the defending state champion Honeybees to 8-0 in league play and 20-2 overall.

It was coach Casey Weil's Honeybees’ 13th shutout in their last 14 games, and 14th consecutive victory. They are No. 4 in the state in the latest Texas Girls Coaches Association’s girls Class 4A rankings.

Gracie Bales scored the first goal for the Honeybees, getting an assist from Claire Choate.

The second goal was made by Haleigh Beam on an unassisted corner kick.

The Bees had their final regular-season game last night (Friday), wrapping up district play at home against Brownwood.

The bi-district round of the playoffs will be staged March 29-31. As district champions, the Honeybees will take on the fourth-place team out of District 3-4A. Burkburnett is fourth in that district, finishing 0-8-1.
