FRISCO - Every starter scored in double figures as Tarleton snapped a four-game skid against Eastern New Mexico to advance to the Lone Star Conference semifinals for the third consecutive season with an 83-61 win over the Greyhounds at Dr Pepper Arena Friday afternoon.
Tarleton and Eastern New Mexico were originally scheduled last night, but a leak in the roof at Dr Pepper Arena forced a delay to this afternoon and it certainly didn't seem to matter to the TexAnns.
Tarleton got double-digit scoring performances from all five starters for the first time this season, led by 18 from Mackenzie Hailey and 17 points each from McKinley Bostad and Tiara Tatum. Katie Webster scored 14 while Kylie Collins chipped in 10. The starting five was 27-47 shooting from the floor for a .574 shooting percentage.
As a team, Tarleton came out firing to the tune of a .518 shooting percentage from the floor and .462 from downtown while holding the Greyhounds to just .373 from the floor and .200 from beyond the arc.
The game opened up in a tight battle as the score was tied 12-12 over the first six minutes before a jumper from Mackenzie Haileystarted a 12-5 Tarleton run over the final 3:29 of the opening quarter to send the TexAnns into the second period up 24-17.
Back-to-back jumpers from Hailey and Webster and a three-ball from Tatum opened up the second quarter with seven unanswered points to extend the lead out to double digits at 31-17. Eastern New Mexico clawed back, however, and pulled as close as five with 1:11 left in the half and cut Tarleton's lead to just six at the break.
After an Eastern three-ball pulled the Greyhounds within a bucket to begin the second half, Collins answered with a triple of her own to begin a game-defining 15-3 run over the first six minutes of the third quarter to put the TexAnns up by 15 at 54-39. Tarleton cruised from there on out, leading by as many as 24 with 1:28 left in the fourth quarter.
In addition to the scoring of the starting five, Tarleton got four points from Shelby Mankins and one each from Baylee Peck, Lucy Benson, and Haley Fieseler to round out the scoring.
Tarleton will play the winner of Angelo State and Texas Woman's in the semifinal round at Dr Pepper Arena in Frisco Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
