Stephenville’s Yellow Jackets were shut out Tuesday by Mineral Wells, 1-0, in their District 4-4A boys soccer contest played at Lem Brock Field in Stephenville.

The loss dropped the Yellow Jackets’ district record to 1-3. They are 11-7 overall.

First-year SHS boys coach Taylor Smith said the Rams scored the lone goal about 30 minutes into the first half of play.

“We played well (and) controlled the game, just couldn’t finish,” Smith stated. “They played a ball over the top and beat our defender in a foot race, but overall we played really well. (We) won possession, had more shots on goal, just couldn’t finish the chances we had.”

The win improved the Rams to 3-1 in district, second behind leader Abilene Wylie’s 4-0 mark. The Jackets are third, ahead of 0-4 Brownwood. All four teams will make the playoffs.

The Jackets were coming off of their first district victory of the season, a 1-0 decision at Brownwood.
