The Stephenville Honeybees smashed Waxahachie Life School on Monday, 15-0, in their District 8-4A softball opener at home in a game shortened to three innings on the mercy rule.

Coach Rus Mayes’ Honeybees improved to 6-3 on the young season with the blowout win over Life School, with pitcher Julia Flores working all three innings and not allowing a hit.

Jessica Ebeling had three of the 13 hits for the Honeybees, who scored four runs in the bottom of the first and piled on 11 more in the second inning.

Life School was charged with four errors, while the Honeybees had one.

The SHS squad had scheduled its Honeybee Classic for Feb. 22-24, but the entire tournament was washed out because of rain and wet grounds.

The Honeybees are scheduled to play Thursday through Saturday in Odessa at the Ector County Invitational. Mayes said that their first game was tentatively scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday.
