The Stephenville boys soccer team halted a two-game District 4-4A losing streak with a 1-0 road victory over Brownwood Friday.
The Yellow Jackets are now 1-2 in district and 11-6 on the season under first-year coach Taylor Smith.
Friday’s game had to be moved from Stephenville to Brownwood because of weather problems and the soaked Lem Brock Field. The playing conditions in Brownwood weren’t ideal either, however. The players had to deal with slippery conditions on the artificial turf in a cold, windy and rainy day.
The only score of the game came on an “own” goal off of SHS player Luis Carrillo when he kicked the ball from about 30 yards out.
“We played well defensively,” Smith said. “We started district off poorly the last two games. We beat ourselves in those games. We stepped up and played more of the ball we’re used to playing.”
Ivan Cabrera had to sit out the game because he had accumulated five yellow cards. But Eluit Reyes moved to his center defensive midfielder position and played well in Cabrera’s absence, Smith said.
The Jackets play Tuesday at home against Mineral Wells. Their next game will also be at home Friday at Lem Brock Field against Abilene Wylie (7 p.m.).
