Seven Stephenville powerlifters have qualified for the Class 4A girls Region 2, Division 2 THSWPA regional meet March 3, coming out of Saturday’s Stephenville High School Invitational.

The Honeybees placed third in the final girls team standings at their meet, with Blaine Gluck winning first place in the girls 105-pound division with a total of 615 pounds lifted.

In addition, the other SHS girls who qualified for regional were Cheney Carrillo, Marianna Reyes, Mallory Gunter, Jessica Ebeling, Aubreyanna Ziegler and Norma Hernandez. Carrillo was third in the 123-pound weight class, lifting 600 pounds. Gunter (181-pound class) was also third, with 754 pounds total.

“The girls did a fantastic job as always,” SHS powerlifting coach Eric Rivas said. “I’m proud to take seven girls to regionals. They all have a shot to medal and a few are close to making it to state.”

Early won the girls team title, followed by Lampasas and Stephenville. The girls regional meet will be held in Temple.

The SHS boys had three competitors who placed at the Stephenville meet. Blu Caylor took third place in his division, while Issic De La Cruz was fourth and Lane York was fifth.

The boys won’t know for another week about who will be advancing to their regional meet, which will be held March 10 in Smithville.

Issic De La Cruz is sitting fifth (in the 198-pound weight class). 

The boys team title Saturday was won by Lampasas, followed by Glen Rose and Early.

132 — 4. Marianna Reyes, 665.

181 — 3. Mallory Gunter, 754.

220 — 3. Blu Caylor, 1,105 pounds total.

275 — 5. Lane York, 975.
