The Stephenville High school boys soccer team fell to Diamond Hill-Jarvis by a 3-1 count Friday on the road in the Yellow Jackets’ final game before the start of district play.

Luis Carrillo scored the only goal for coach Taylor Smith’s Jackets, who slipped to 10-4 on the season.

“They were a good team, probably the best team we played all year but we played toe to toe with them despite being down our top three attacking players,” Smith said.

Detailing the personnel losses on the day, Smith noted, “Jorge Gallegos couldn’t make it. Kevin Martinez was too tight (and) played five minutes, that’s all. So J.J. Saldana and Luis started for those two and played well but Kevin and Jorge are two of the top three scorers.”

Smith also stated, “Ivan (Cabrera), being the top scorer and was limited in minutes due to soreness and a yellow card. Christian Brown was sick. J.J. cramped up in the second half putting us down to position changing just to get 11 on the pitch.”

The Yellow Jackets will be home Friday for the start of District 4-4A play, taking on Mineral Wells at Lem Brock Field. Starting time is set for 7 p.m.
