With one more win behind them, the defending Class 4A state champion Stephenville Honeybees girls soccer squad will begin District 4-4A play this Friday at home against Mineral Wells.

The Honeybees closed out their non-district slate Friday with a 3-0 road win over China Spring.

Gracie Bales scored the first two goals in that contest for the Honeybees, followed by one from Cheney Carrillo. All three came off of assists from Ciara Johnston.

Coach Casey Weil’s Honeybees improved their season record to 13-2.

Friday’s game against Mineral Wells will start at 5 p.m. at Lem Brock Field. The varsity boys game against Mineral Wells, also the start of district play, will follow the girls game at 7 p.m.

Last season, the Honeybees finished second in the district, but went on to capture the state championship with a 2-1 triumph over Boerne in the state final.
