Ciara Johnston and the rest of the defending Class 4A state soccer champion Stephenville Honeybees are rolling along at full speed in non-district play, and the latest victim to bite the dust was Burkburnett.

The 12-2 Honeybees blasted the Lady Bulldogs 10-0 Wednesday at Lem Brock Field, once again getting a hat trick of three goals from Johnston.

It marked the third consecutive game that Johnston, a sophomore forward, has scored three goals, and the fourth time this season. She has 19 goals this season, along with a dozen assists.

Also in the win, SHS got two goals from Cheney Carrillo, and one each from Tanja Pederson, Emily Kirbo, Haleigh Beam, Madison Carter and Natalie Elizondo.

“Everybody played really well,” SHS girls soccer coach Casey Weil said. “It was a great team win.”

Johnston also was credited with three assists.

“Ciara is playing extremely well,” Weil noted. “She’s a great scorer. We just need to peek at the right time.”

Beatris Chavarria recorded two assists, while Carter, Bailie Atchley, Courtney Langley, Pederson and Carrillo had one each.

The Burkburnett matchup had originally been scheduled to be played Tuesday, but was moved to Wednesday because of concerns over weather.

The Honeybees play Friday at China Spring. Their next game will mark the start of District 4-4A play. That will be at 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16, at home at Lem Brock Field against Mineral Wells.
