The Stephenville High School boys soccer team notched just one goal Wednesday, but it was all the Yellow Jackets needed in order to defeat Burkburnett, 1-0.

Luis Carrillo scored the only goal for the Jackets, on a pass from Ivan Cabrera. The score came about 33 minutes into the first half.

The road victory, which had been postponed from Tuesday because of weather concerns, improved first-year head coach Taylor Smith’s Yellow Jackets to 10-3 on the season.

“I was proud of our boys,” Smith said, noting that the game got “chippy” and the rough physical play “flustered” his players as the game went along.

“But we kept playing our game and controlled the ball,” Smith said. “Defense played much better. They played a little dirty, but (were) an average team. We got the outcome we expected.”

Alfredo Rocha got the shutout playing in goal for SHS.

“He played well, (and) had about six saves,” Smith said.

The Yellow Jackets play Friday against Diamond Hill-Jarvis.

Their next game will be at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 16, at home (Lem Brock Field) for the start of District 4-4A play, versus Mineral Wells.
