For the second time in three years and in all of Tarleton Volleyball's history, the TexAnns are the champions of the Lone Star Conference.
"It's exciting. These girls are awesome and I'm blessed to be a part of it," said head coach Mary Schindler.
With two games remaining left in the regular season, Tarleton boasts only two league losses compared to second-place Texas A&M-Commerce's five to secure the championship for the TexAnns. With the league's regular season championship comes the right to serve as the host institution for the Lone Star Conference Volleyball Championship Tournament on November 16-18.
Tarleton came out on fire as the TexAnns jumped on the Aggies early to the tune of seven straight points for a 7-0 advantage. The TexAnns continued to pile it on as they reached set point before Cameron reached double digits at 24-9. After three straight Aggie points prolonged the inevitable, a service error gave Tarleton a 25-12 victory to open things up.
The second set forced Tarleton to play catch up after Cameron took a 14-12 lead over the first 26 points. Hailey Roberts landed a kill shot on the 27th point to start a 6-0 run and put Tarleton on top 18-14. Cameron pulled as close as three down the stretch, but a kill from Amber Strange sealed the deal 25-20.
In the final set, Tarleton kept the Aggies from putting together any kind of run as Cameron was only able to score back-to-back points three times while the TexAnns stayed in control and ultimately ended the set with a 25-14 win.
Roberts recorded her 81st career double-double with a team-high 12 kills and 10 digs while Adriana Darthuy powered home 10 kills. Strange (8) and Hannah McManus (6) combined for 14 kills in the middle while Keamo (5) and Gow (4) rounded out the offense's 45 kills.
Keamo dished out 35 assists while Adrianna Knutson led the team with 14 digs while helping hold Cameron to a .087 hitting percentage as a team.
Tarleton will return home next weekend for the final home stand of the regular season Friday against Western New Mexico at 6 p.m.and Saturday against Eastern New Mexico at 12 p.m. for senior day. The TexAnns will recognize Roberts, Gow, and Keamo in a pregame ceremony.
