The Stephenville High School volleyball team began District 8-4A competition Tuesday on the road with a 25-19, 25-19, 25-13 victory over Godley.

Coach Fran Metzger’s Honeybees improved to 14-17 overall and 1-0 in district with the straight-set win, while Godley dropped to 0-2 in league play.

Salette Rios led the Honeybees in kills with 10 followed by Jaci Morton with 7.

Hailey Martin recorded a team-leading 22 digs.

Stephenville notched five service aces in all.

“It was a good win. I’m proud of the girls,” Metzger said. “My outsiders hit well.

“Godley played really good defense against us. They didn’t have a lot of height, so that was an advantage to us.”

The Honeybees led off their district schedule with a bye. They continued league play Friday at home against Alvarado.

Next for Stephenville will be a matchup at home on Tuesday against Midlothian Heritage. In the current Texas Girls Coaches Association rankings, Heritage is No. 3 in the state in Class 4A.
