The first practice for Stephenville High School’s 2017 volleyball season will be this Tuesday, and the Honeybees will start preseason competition with a scrimmage Friday at home.

SHS varsity volleyball coach Fran Metzger said the Honeybees' 8 a.m. practices will begin Tuesday for the varsity, junior varsity and freshman teams.

Friday’s opening scrimmage will include Abilene Cooper, Krum and Fort Worth Paschal. There is no admission charge.

The next day, Saturday, Aug. 5, the Honeybee teams will travel to Gatesville for another four-team scrimmage. The others expected for that date are Temple High, Killeen Shoemaker and the host school, Gatesville.

The regular-season schedule opens on Aug. 8, at home against Burleson. That date will include freshmen, junior varsity and varsity games, with the first game starting at 5:30.

The Honeybees are in the seven-school District 8-4A alignment with Alvarado, Glen Rose, Godley, Midlothian Heritage, Venus and Waxahachie Life School.

The district opener for the Honeybees will be Sept. 12, at Godley.

Last season, Metzger’s Honeybees defeated Fort Worth Castleberry in the bi-district round of the playoffs. They were eliminated in the area round of the playoffs by Abilene Wylie.
