DELEON — George Wayland Hodges, 81, died Thursday, December 3, 2009, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturdayat the DeLeon First Baptist Church with Bro. David Kelly officiating. Burial will be in DeLeon Cemetery.
George was born February 22, 1928 in Comanche County to Clyde C. and Selma Faye Sides Hodges. He married Mary Beth Peevy on November 1, 1951 in DeLeon, she preceded him in death on February 16, 1994, he later married Joyce Franklin on March 17, 1988 in Comanche.
George was retired from Golden Oak Milling Company in DeLeon where he was foreman and a salesman; he served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and lived in DeLeon his entire life. He was a member First Baptist Church where he taught a children's Sunday school class for many years. He was a 50- year member of DeLeon Armstrong Lodge.
Preceded in death by his wife Mary Beth, his parents and brother Talmage Hodges.
Survivors include his wife Joyce, son, Bruce Hodges and wife Tracy of Dublin, daughter, Carla Coyle and husband Andy of Stephenville, step-son, Roger Lewis of DeLeon, step-daughter Jennifer Jaggars and husband Kevin of Sidney; brothers, Glen Hodges of Granbury, Bob Hodges of Stephenville, Robert Hodges of DeLeon, John D. Hodges of Dublin and Terry Hodges of DeLeon; sisters, Linda Teague of Hallettsville, Elizabeth Sharp of Athens, two grandchildren, Tiffany Bates and John Glasscock, step grandchildren Elizabeth Lewis, Jennifer Lewis, Kimberly Lewis and three great-grandchildren Ross, Ty and Brinlea.
