Sam E. Watts, 81of Fredericksburg, Texas, died Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at the Knopp Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fredericksburg, Texas. Sam Edward Watts was born on January 19, 1928.  He was the only child born to Anna Bessie and John Morgan Watts of Stephenville, Texas.  They preceded him in death. He grew up in Stephenville, entering the Army in 1946. Sam was assigned to the 82nd Airborne in Fort Brag, North Carolina. Following his honorable discharge, he ranched in Comanche County for 20 years. He was recognized across the state as a very knowledgeable cow breeder, raising registered Hereford cattle.  Sam enjoyed wide success as a horseman, rising to national acclaim in the cutting horse arena. During the later part of his ranching career he also ran the family business in Stephenville.  Watts Ladies Store was on the square in Stephenville for 50 years.  Sam Watts moved his family to Kansas in 1972 and later became the Cattle Foreman for Grant County Feed Yard.  After retiring, he moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia to be close to several of his daughters. Returning to Texas in late 2002, Sam made his home in Fredericksburg living with his daughter and son in law, Elizabeth and Gary Griffin. He is survived by six daughters and their spouses, Cheryl and Glen Roberts of Vail, Colorado, Elizabeth and Gary Griffin of Fredericksburg, Texas, Dawn and Scott Matheson of Chesapeake Virginia, Roxanna and Woody Rask of Lincoln, Nebraska, Shana Krichmar of Larkspur, Colorado, and Heather and Randy Lemke of Clifton, Texas. 11 Grandchildren and four Great Grandchildren also survive Sam.  A Memorial Service and greeting of friends will be held Monday December 28th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Schaetter Funeral Home in Fredericksburg.  A private family gathering to scatter his Cremains will be held a later date.
