HEWITT - Charles “Charlie” Beatty, 85, of Hewitt, passed away Sunday, August 1, 2010.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the OakCrest Funeral Home Chapel with Larry Eoff officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 5—7 p.m. Tuesday at OakCrest Funeral Home, located at 4520 Bosque Blvd. in Waco.
Charles was born December 9, 1924 in Waco to James R. “Son” and Lois DeVaney Beatty. He graduated from Waco High School where he played for the Waco High Tigers. He served in the Navy from 1943-46 as an Aviation Gunner on the U.S.S. Bennington during WWII. He married Syble June Fudge on April 17, 1948. Charles worked at Owens Illinois Glass Plant for 43 years. He played several sports, and was an avid golfer who won several championships. He was a member of the Hewitt Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Charles is survived by his wife, June; sister, Wanda Shilling of Waco; three children, Steve and Linda Beatty of China Spring, Nancy and Steve Mullens of Riesel, and Coke and Mitzi Beatty from Stephenville; 10 grandchildren, and two great-grand-children with another due this October.
