STEPHENVILLE — Russell A. (Rusty) Smith, 61, of Stephenville, a retired Electrical Engineer, died Friday, November 7, 2008. Services will be 11:00 A.M, Monday, November 10, 2008, at Lacy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carl Ford and Rev. Chad Mooney officiating. He will be cremated. He was born on May 5, 1947, to the late George Alfred and Wanda Jo (Brumley) Smith in Bay City, Texas. He served his country during the Vietnam War while in the United States Navy. He was a Pentecostal. Rusty was an accomplished guitarist. Over the years he taught many people to play the guitar. He was a songwriter; he loved getting together with family to sing and play. For years he played with a group of men in his home town of Bay City, Texas, every Tuesday night. No matter where he lived: Houston, Anchorage, Alaska or Texarkana, he found someone to play music with.
Survivors include: daughters, Jana Ford and husband, Carl, of Stephenville and Kristi Smith of Bay City; sisters, Wanda Garner of Colorado, Nellie Haaksma of Houston, Joann Harper of Hattiesburg, MS; brother, Mike Smith of Bay City; grandchildren, Danelle and husband, Chad, Brandon, Kegan and wife, Lindsey, Micah, Brittany, Casey, and Brooklyn; and one great-grandson, Skyler.
