STEPHENVILLE - Michael Cook Walton, 71, a retired district director with Texas Department of Agriculture, went to be with his personal Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, March 11, 2011.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at Lacy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Blagg and Rev. Jim Looby officiating. Burial will be at Cook Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive visitation 6 -8 p.m. on Sunday at Lacy Funeral Home.

Michael was born on December 22, 1939, to the late Ernest Vernon and Estelle (Cook) Walton in Dallas. He was a member of Greens Creek Baptist Church. Michael graduated from A & M Consolidated High School in College Station in 1958 and attended Texas A&M University. He was employed by the Texas Department of Agriculture from 1962 until his disability retirement in the early 1990ís. As a grandfather of nine, he was called Granddad, Grindad, Grumpus, and Monk-Monk.

Survivors include three children, Virginia Ann Roberts and husband, John, of Beaumont, R. Michelle Kinser and husband, Andrew, of Stephenville and Michael Vernon Walton and wife, Trina, of Lubbock; one brother, Jim Walton of Stephenville; nine grandchildren, Jeremy Hymer, Margo Hymer, Tabitha Hymer, Jason Roberts, Kali Kinser, Gabrielle Kinser, Adam T. Walton, Abby Walton and Robert Chapman; one great-grandson, Milam Thomas Hymer; several nieces, nephews and cousins; three lifetime good friends, Ann Vargas, Gary Miller and Rick Wahrmund; and a very special friend, Heidi Craddock.

He was preceded in death by his parents, E.V. Walton and Estelle Cook Walton; a brother, Daylon Walton; maternal grandparents, Fletcher and Oveita (Barrett) Cook; and paternal grandparents, Tom S. and Pearl (Couch) Walton.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
