For the unforeseeable future, Erath county is going to be heating up, literally. The coolest the temperature is supposed to be in the next 10 days according to the Weather Channel is 92 degrees on Saturday. And no rain is expected in the same allotted time. This means everyone should be aware and be safe when working or playing outside.
According to the National Weather Service, heat is one of the leading weather-related killers in the world. In the heat wave of 1980, more than 1,200 people died. When the weather is extremely hot and humid the body’s ability to cool itself is affected. When the body heats too quickly to cool itself off, or if too much salt or fluid is lost through dehydration or sweating, body temperatures rise. There are multiple heat illnesses which can vary from heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke, which is deadly and requires immediate attention.
