With dove hunting season taking to the skies on Sept. 1, area hunters will have an opportunity to obtain Texas Hunter Education Certification through an upcoming two-day course.

Volunteer instructor and local resident Calvin Hudson will teach the course on Aug. 20 and 21 at Box H Bird Ranch, just outside of Stephenville.

The course provides instruction on the state's hunting regulations, wildlife management and identification, conservation, ethics, firearm and hunting safety and responsibility and outdoor skills, Hudson said.

Every hunter born after Sept. 2, 1971 must successfully complete a certification course. The minimum age of certification is 9.

"The certification is good for life and every state in every country honors it," Hudson said.
