Two Tarleton State University students accused of theft are facing administrative action.

According to university Police Chief Justin Williams, the students - who will not be named until action is filed against them - allegedly "ran off" with a television.

Williams said the 55 inch LCD TV valued at $1,200 was being installed when it was taken from a hallway in the Thompson Student Center about 3:30 p.m. Monday.

Williams said the television, which was still in its original packaging, was recovered by 5 p.m. at a local apartment complex.

While the offense - theft up to $1,500 - is a class A misdemeanor and punishable by up to one year in jail, Williams said Tarleton officials are expected to handle the issue administratively. He said the education code allows university officials to determine appropriate action in dealing with certain misdemeanor offenses on campus and choose between criminal or administrative charges.
