Just before another school year begins Monday, Texas shoppers will get a break from state and local sales tax on a slew of back-to-school items.
From Friday-Sunday, the state will hold its annual sales tax holiday on items ranging from crayons to sweatsuits.
Locally owned retailers will also host sales that will allow for additional savings.
GeriAnn Kalsbeek, owner of 4 Kids Only, said her store will host a buy one get one free sale this weekend, something she has done for the past 10 years.
Kalsbeek said business has been steady but she does expect a large number of people to take advantage of the once-a-year savings.
Traditional school clothes such as shorts, pants, shirts and sweaters, and supplies like calculators and backpacks under $100 are on the tax-exempt list.
