Three people were seriously injured in a head-on collision on US Highway 281 early Saturday morning after the drivers of both vehicles apparently fell asleep at the wheel.

Lance Robinson, 23, of College Station, was the driver of a Volkswagon Beetle heading south shortly after midnight Saturday. Robinson and his passenger, Whitley Dean, 23, a Tarleton State University student, were both airlifted to Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospital with serious injuries, according to Sgt. Bobby Shields with the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Timothy Parker, 21, a Tarleton student and resident of Morgan Mill, was also transported by air to a Fort Worth hospital with non-capacitating injuries, Shields said.

Parker was traveling north in a Chevrolet pickup that slammed into the Volkswagon.

Both drivers drifted into the center of the road and collided after falling asleep at the wheel, Shields said.

The condition of the victims is not known.
