The Stephenville City Council will get down to business this evening by hearing reports relevant to property taxes within the city. Jeff Brown, with Linebarger Goggan Blain & Sampson, LLP, will report on the delinquent tax collections. Meanwhile, Chief Appraiser Jerry Lee and Bill Bailey, chairman of the Erath County Appraisal District board of directors, will deliver the districtís annual report.

Following months of discussion by the cityís Planning and Zoning Commission (P&Z), a public hearing will be held regarding wind turbines within the city limits.

In August 2008, the council voted unanimously to put a moratorium on the issuance of building permits for wind turbines and sent the issue to P&Z for further review. The P&Z presented their findings to the council in May and will present a draft ordinance at tonightís meeting.

Also relevant to P&Z, the council will consider a request to vacate part of West Park Street right of way along blocks 26-30; Frey First Addition; and Block 12, Crow Styles Addition from North Graham Ave. to North Paddock Ave. Following the discussion, the council will consider adopting an ordinance declaring a portion of Park Street abandoned.

In other items of business, the council will review a Planning and Development Committee report which includes discussions on streets in the area of Tarleton State University as well as future street projects.

In regards to the Public Health and Safety Committee, the council will discuss a proposed smoking ban, which gained little support from the community during two previous public hearings and was tabled at a committee meeting in mid-September.

The council will also consider approving the cityís Emergency Management Plan.

Finally, the council will discuss progress on a number of grants to which the city has applied, including a community development block grant and a routine airport maintenance project grant.

The council will meet at 5:30 p.m. in council chambers at City Hall.†
