Summer vacation is officially under way and by now parents are scrambling to keep their kids busy.

To help ward off the doldrums in your household, here is another glimpse of the many camps offered in the area.

Jacket Basketball Camp at Stephenville High School

9 a.m. to noon, June 4-7

The camp is available to students in grades 1 through 8. Cost is $50 per player.

Camp activities include fundamentals, defense, 1 on 1, 3 on 3, 5 on 5 and competition drills. Cost includes camp T-shirt and basketball. Registration forms available at SHS athletic office.

Honeybee Volleyball Camp at Henderson Junior High

June 4-7

Grades 7, 8 and 9, 8:30 a.m. to noon

Grades 4, 5 and 6, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Cost is $50 per player for grades 7, 8 and 9 and $35 per player for grades 4, 5, and 6. Cost includes camp T-shirt and awards.

Lonn Reisman’s Texan Basketball Camp at Tarleton State University

8 a.m. to 5 p.m., June 10-14 and July 8-12, grades 4 and higher

Cost for overnight campers is $275 and includes room and board, insurance and a souvenir T-shirt and basketball. The cost for commuters is $115.

Gymnastics Camp at Valerie’s Gym in Dublin

9 a.m. to noon, June 11-14

Cost is $65 per child or $90 for two children and $110 for three children. Cost also includes camp T-shirt.

This camp is limited to the first 75 gymnasts who sign up. For more information, call Valerie at 918-7244.

Ronnie Hearne’s Texann Basketball Camps at Tarleton State University

Texann Fundamentals Camp

Grades 5-12, June 17-21 and June 24-28

Cost is $250 for overnighters and includes room and board, camp T-shirt and basketball. Cost for commuters is $175 and includes T-shirt and basketball. The camp will stress fundamental skills during the day and will focus on team play at night.

Texann Day Camp

Grades 1-8, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., July 16-19

Cheerleading Camp at Valerie’s Gym in Dublin

5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., June 18-21

Cost is $65 per child or $90 for two children and $110 for three children. Cost also includes camp T-shirt.

CSI Tarleton at Tarleton State University

All day, June 21-22

Cost is $175 and includes all meals, overnight accommodations and all activities and materials.

Campers will learn the basics of crime scene investigations including basic forensic science, crime scene analysis, fingerprints, and ballistics. Much of the learning will be “hands on” including the processing of a mock crime scene.

Students will stay overnight in a dormitory and will be closely supervised by criminal justice faculty members at all times. For more information, call Dr. George Eichenberg at 254-968-9031 or 254-968-9024.

Texann Volleyball Camps at Tarleton State University

Grades 5-12, June 3-7 and July 22-26

Cost is $195 for overnight campers and includes room and board and camp T-shirt.

Tarleton Football “Skills Position Camp”

July 15-17

Cost is $225 for overnight campers and $150 for commuters. An outstanding staff of highly qualified and experienced coaches will instruct athletes in all phases of individual position. For more information, call 254-968-9518.

Rita Crockett Volleyball Camp at Henderson Junior High

July 26-28

Team camp — Grades 8-12, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Cost is $170 per player

Individual Basic Skills Camp - all ages, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Cost is $150 per player.

Cost includes camp T-shirt and autographed picture of Crockett, who was a member of the 1980 and 1984 U.S. Olympic volleyball teams and silver medal winner.

The Foster’s Home Family Care Program Summer Stars Camp

Grades 1-6, 8:30 a.m. to noon, July 24-26

The camp is free.

Summer Stars Camp is a day camp provided by Foster’s Home Family Care Program. Campers will be challenged to learn social skills such as teamwork, responsibility, communication, and respecting others. These skills will be taught in a fun, interactive camp atmosphere. Cross Timber Fine Arts Council Children’s Theatre Camp

June 18-23

Ages 6-18. Time and location to be announced. In partnership with world renowned Missoula Children’s Theatre local youth develop life skills through participation in the performing arts. Every child who registers and auditions will be part of a production of Cinderella. Pre-registration is mandatory in order to audition. Auditions will be held Monday, June 18. This residency is limited to 50 participants.

CTFAC ARTsploration Youth Art Camp

9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., July 23-25

9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., July 30-Aug. 1

Cost is $40, plus a $5 supply fee due to instructor. The multi-media art camp is open to children ages 5-13. Space is limited. For more information about CTFAC summer camps, call 254-965-6190.

SportReach Christian Sports Camp hosted by Cross Timbers Church of Christ

9 a.m. to noon, June 11-15 at Stephenville Recreation Hall

Camp is open to students in grades 1-3.

SportReach is an organization made up of university-level Christian athletes who partner with churches across the nation. Campers participate in an introduction to football, soccer, basketball, and cheerleading. Cost is $25 and includes water bottle and T-shirt. A $5 discount will be given for each additional sibling.

For students in grades 4-6, campers select a sport to focus on.
