Prayers for rain have been answered.
Long-awaited rainfall soaked the area Tuesday and Wednesday and is supposed to stick around for the rest of the week.
According to local weather guru, Dr. Stuart Chilton, Stephenville received about 2.27 inches of rain on Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing the year-to-date total to 4.28 inches.
Wednesday’s precipitation was the most the area has had since last May, when 2.7 inches of rain came down.
“This rain will help some, but we still need more,” said Chilton.
The average amount of rain for this time of year is 6.1 inches. Since the area only has 4.28 inches for now, more rain dances will be needed for the rain to catch up.
According to Chilton, the rain should be falling for the rest of the week, leaving residents with the task of staying warm and dry.
With one accident already blamed on slick roads, motorists are urged to use caution when traveling on slippery streets.
