The residents of Stephenville are always willing to lend a helping hand.
In this day and time we need to pull together as a community even more than ever. On Thursday, the AAUW (American Association of University Women) and the Stephenville Chamber of Commerce are sponsoring a Volunteer Fair in an effort to bring together non-profit organizations that need volunteers with community residents.
The Volunteer Fair will take place at First Presbyterian Church at 6:30 p.m. with light refreshments being served.
You’ve heard the phrase “Pay it forward” and “It is always better to give than to receive,” with this spirit in mind the public is invited to get involved and make a positive impact on the community by learning ways to volunteer.
Volunteer opportunities will be presented by various non-profit organizations along with information on services they provide to the community during the Volunteer Fair.
Volunteers are needed because many of these non-profit organizations have limited budgets and few staff members but take on huge jobs and responsibilities in the community to serve others.
Organizations to be represented include: CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), Meals on Wheels, Cross Timbers Family Services, Stephenville Chamber of Commerce, Erath County Volunteer Fire Department, Stephenville Public Library, Helping Place Counseling Services, Stephenville Historical Museum, Hook Elementary Mentoring Program, and Tree House After School Program.
Non-profit organizations looking for more information cal call the chamber at 965-5313. For general information about the fair, contact AAUW President Sharon Bryant at 968-3770.
