No one can remember the last time so many candidates ran for the Stephenville City Council at one time. Sixteen candidates will appear on the May 10 ballot that will feature four contested city council races, including mayor, and one contested school board race.

As your hometown newspaper, we understand our duty to provide readers with fair, balanced reporting concerning the election. We will continue to cover issues facing the city council and school board with fair and balanced reporting throughout the election process.

To help citizens get to know each of the candidates and make informed voting decisions, the E-T will provide candidates with a list of questions from our editorial staff and readers. Each candidate will receive the same set of questions and their answers will appear in the Empire-Tribune exactly as they are answered. These will be published before early voting begins on April 28.

To facilitate an even stronger connection to local candidates, the E-T is working in conjunction with the Stephenville Chamber of Commerce to host a political forum that will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, April 24, at the Virginia Bond Auditorium, where candidates will be asked a separate set of questions.

Readers who would like to submit questions for the candidates can do so by emailing them to news@empiretribune.com or by mail at P.O. Box 958, Stephenville, TX, 76401. Submission deadline is Friday, April 11.
