Texas heat and Texas Music are going to set city park on fire tonight.

The third and final concert in the Texstar Ford Lincoln Mercury Summer Concert Series will light up the stage at Birdsong Amphitheater in Stephenville City Park.

Tonight’s concert will welcome the traditional honky tonk styling of Jake Hooker and the Outsiders, followed by Gary P. Nunn, an icon and veteran on the Lone Star music scene.

Hooker and the Outsiders will take the stage at 7 p.m., followed by Nunn at 8:30. The concert will come to a close at 10.

The event, which is co-sponsored by Stephenville Parks and Recreation Department, has entertained the music-hungry masses for more than a decade. The series not only offers the finest entertainers from across the Lone Star State and beyond right here at home in the Cowboy Capital, it is also Texstar’s way of giving back to the community by providing an annual star-studded lineup at no cost to attendees.

“It’s a way to give back with events that the whole family can attend,” Texstar owner Doug Montgomery said when this year’s event kicked off in June. “We know a lot of musicians and sell them a lot of cars and it was just a good fit for us.”

Montgomery said the musicians also enjoy the venue, which offers family-friendly entertainment.

“The musicians who have played all these years just love it,” Montgomery said. “They love the family atmosphere.”

And the series is exactly what the city and the Cross Timbers Fine Arts Council had in mind when they erected the amphitheatre.

“The ampitheatre was built specifically for this kind of event,” Drew Wells, director of community services, said. “It is just another activity we are able to provide and hope the citizens will come out and enjoy it. With the help of Texstar, we are able to provide great entertainment at no cost.”

Montgomery and Wells are inviting residents to come out and enjoy Texas Music under the Stephenville sky tonight.

“It’s free and it doesn’t get any better than that,” Montgomery said.

While attendees are encouraged to pack up their lawn chairs and bring their blankets to grab a front row seat on the lawn, another event will offer a great tasting meal for a great cause and price, so skip dinner and head down tot he park.

The Erath County United Way will host its annual Fish Fry fundraiser from 6 - 8 p.m at the large pavilion at city park. Tickets at the door will be $10 per adult and $5 for children, with children under five years old served free of charge.
