E-T Staff Report

Bring the family to downtown Stephenville Saturday to enjoy the Fall Festival. The event will take place from 2-6 p.m. at the downtown square and plaza, featuring a host of wonderful activities reflecting the season.

Scarecrows are popping up everywhere as businesses decorate their storefronts to enter the Scarecrow Decorating Contest.

Moms and dads, begin getting your little ones ready for the Pumpkin Pageant, where the best dressed kiddos will vie for the titles of “Little Miss Autumn” and “Mr. Fall” in three age groups; 1 and under, 2 to 3 and 4 to 5. Trophies and crowns will be awarded to the winners. Registration is from 1:15 to 1:45 p.m. and the pageant starts at 2. Registration forms can be obtained from the Chamber of Commerce office.

And no festival is complete without a little friendly competition. Families are invited to submit their favorite recipes and enter the “Taste of Home” family dessert recipe contest sponsored by The Home Place at Ace. Prizes will be awarded.

Don’t forget about the Pumpkin Decorating Contest. Those who want to enter must bring their own pumpkins, tools and decorations.

And this year, an enthusiastic group of Tarleton State University students will bring an old favorite to the mix by hosting Bingo from 2-6 p.m. at the Senior Citizens Center.

In addition to all the fun, there will be plenty of food and shopping around the square. Some of the items up for sale will include Christmas ornaments, designer purses, jewelry, candles, western and leather goods and novelty items. Food will be available at the “fall food court,” in front of the courthouse, offering popcorn balls, baked goods, sandwiches, smores, spiced tea, apple cider, hot chocolate and more.

There will also be plenty of live entertainment featuring the Cross Timbers Express Band, The Bosque River Boys and a special guest appearance by Elvis.
