Long-standing community member Les Gandy jumped head first into business Tuesday as he served his first day on the Erath County Appraisal District board of directors.

The board recognized Gandy’s resignation from the Appraisal Review Board (ARB) and all five board members took the oath of office, swearing to faithfully execute the duties of the ECAD board.

As they do annually, the board then appointed officers. Newcomer Gandy nominated current board Chairman Bill Bailey to continue in his role and board member Katherine Prater seconded the motion. But board member Dr. Dannah Proctor felt Gandy was a better pick for the job and nominated him as chairman, a motion that was seconded by board member Jennifer Carey. Bailey weighed in on the 2:2 split vote by voting for himself. With Bailey keeping his title, Gandy was named vice chairman and Carey was named secretary.

The board also appointed a replacement to fill Gandy’s former seat on the ARB. Despite a recommendation from the Stephenville ISD board of trustees to appoint Andy Hansen, the board chose a Huckabay resident to fill the spot.

Joni Peterson, who worked as a realtor for 25 years and was publicity chairman of the Dallas County Board of Realtors and held various offices on the Ellis County Women’s Council of Realtors and was also the Ellis County Grievance Committee Chairman for two years, won the appointment.
