The volleyball playoff participants from District 8-4A are set in stone. The only thing left to determine is the seeding.
Stephenville and Granbury clinched the third and fourth spots with a GHS sweep of Timberview (currently fifth) Tuesday night. The Honeybees and Lady Pirates are tied for third in the league entering their showdown at Granbury's James Waan Sports Center at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
The Bees are currently tied with Granbury, but hold the head-to-head tiebreaker thanks to a three-set sweep of the Lady Pirates during the first loop through 8-4A play. If Stephenville wins Friday, the Honeybees will seal the district's No. 3 seed regardless of results from each team's district finale next week.
Arlington Seguin and Mansfield Legacy are first and second in the district with marks of 11-0 and 10-1, respectively. They meet on Friday, as well, and a Seguin win would wrap up the district championship.
Stephenville had a chance to move into a second-place tie at Legacy Tuesday night, but couldn't overcome numerous errors. Legacy won 25-20, 25-11, 25-18, guaranteeing itself a top two finish in the district.
"We didn't play very well and they did," was Stephenville head coach Fran Metzger's simple assessment of the match. "We just made way too many errors."
The Bees committed 10 service-receive errors, six hitting miscues and three setting errors.
Stephenville was led by Christina Murphy with 11 digs, eight kills and six assists. Mara Christian had 14 digs and Macy Moncrief added 10. Rachel Choate led in assists with 11 and Kaylee Davis led in blocks with four.
