With the sudden death of Michael Jackson, fans have been rushing out to buy the King of Pop’s albums and other memorabilia.

Hastings Books, Music and Entertainment in Stephenville sold several of Jackson’s albums Thursday evening, the day of the pop star’s death.

Since the store opened its doors Friday morning, customers have been buying his albums nonstop.

“This is the first time I’ve seen this happen,” said Juan Casildo, music manager of Hastings. “This doesn’t happen too often, but the death of Michael Jackson is a big one. It’s definitely more noticeable.”

Customers are asking what albums the store carries and how many are still available.

“Many people have been asking for his Thriller album,” Casildo said. “But they have been asking for his greatest hits albums, too. “

According to the Michael Jackson official Web site, the pop star was inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and was nominated Most Successful Entertainer of All Time by the Guinness Book of World Records. He had also sold an estimated 750 million albums worldwide.

“We are not sold out yet, but I can see in the near future we will be,” Casildo said. “The music team is ahead of schedule and has already ordered many of his albums. We should get them in no later than this Thursday.”

The store has ordered ten of each of Jackson’s albums, including his more popular albums, his greatest hits, anniversary albums, special release albums and others. While Hastings has not carried Jackson’s memorabilia before, the Stephenville store plans to change that.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if we were to get in posters and T-shirts of Michael Jackson soon,” said Casildo. “We will try to get as much memorabilia in that we can, but for now we are focusing on the music department.”

Calsildo encourages customers to keep checking back for more information as to when the next shipment of albums will be in. For more information, contact Hastings at 254-965-5473.
