E-T Staff Report

A Bluff Dale couple was critically injured last week when they lost control of their vehicle in the Mountain Lakes area.

The couple, whose last name is Roberts, was individually air lifted to Fort Worth hospitals. The woman was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital.

Erath County Volunteer Fire Rescue Chief Kenneth Howell said the single-car accident was one of the worst he has seen. The driver of the vehicle apparently lost control, ran off the road and flipped. The driver and the passenger were both ejected, Howell said.

Crews from ECVFR, Bluff Dale Volunteer Fire Department and Erath EMS responded to the scene and found both victims in “critical condition,” Howell said.

“The woman’s right leg was completely severed about six inches from the ankle,” Howell said. “Her left leg was partially severed, but we are hopeful it will be saved.”

The accident report was not available for review at press time.
