For partygoers looking for a fun and affordable way to leave this weekend’s fright fest as the talk of the party, or professionals looking for a way to show their spooktacular spirit while remaining ready for that unplanned meeting, local business owner Elaine Smith is sharing a few costume ideas.
“My costumes are designed to unpin, untie or otherwise be easily removed to allow the wearer to still be fully clothed when the costume is taken off,” Smith said.
While Smith admits she can’t take all of the credit for dreaming up the designs, she did put the costume kits together and has a number of innovative ideas that only cost $10-$30. From fun to flirty, Smith’s novelty shop “On the Edge” has something for everyone.
Here are a couple of simple ideas for the ladies: A large bow and a gift tag that reads “To: Men, From: God.” Simple and sassy, this costume says it all - you’re God’s gift to men. It also works in reverse, God’s gift to women.
For ladies looking for flirty flare, Smith has belly dancing scarves and finger symbols that will turn heads at any event.
For the rockers that don’t have the friends on hand to pull off the entire band, here is an innovative way to show up to a party as Hollywood rock band Guns N’ Roses - a red T-shirt adorned with roses and toy guns.
Here are some other fun costume ideas for purchase:
• Two pieces of white poster board and a few white balloons along the edges, makes a bar of soap.
• a long black cloth with a couple of yellow stripes and car and truck cutouts makes a two-lane highway.
• a cardboard box, table skirt and lampshade for your head makes a one-night stand.
“On the Edge” is a fitting name for the new novelty business, which shares with shoppers a little bit of adult humor and offers products that make great gag gifts - but the gifts don’t cross the line.
Smith’s bag of laughs is just an arm’s reach from the family muffler shop, located inside S&S Automotive at 720 W. Jones. She can be reached at 445-2787.
