An Erath County Grand Jury indicted 20 individuals Wednesday on a variety of charges, 14 of which involved possession of a controlled substance.

District Attorney John Terrill said many of the cases involving possession were more than six months old and not a surge in new drug arrests. He said the Department of Public Safety lab is backlogged with cases and the district attorney's office was waiting on lab reports.

One man, Federico I. Maldonado, 46, was indicted on two counts of indecency with a child involving two children under the age of 14. It is a second-degree felony offense.

Other indictments include:

Melinda Marie Barney, 25, possession of a substance in penalty group one (more than one gram but less than four), a state jail felony.

Ryan Evan Brown, 30, possession of a substance in penalty group one (more than one gram but less than four), a state jail felony.

Severiano Cruz, 29, possession of a substance in penalty group one, (less than one gram), a state jail felony.

Stacy Elston Dawson, 41, possession of a substance in penalty group one, (less than one gram), a state jail felony.

Matthew Charles Geffre, 19, theft (over $1,500 or more but less than $20,000), a state jail felony.

William John Gross, Jr., possession of a substance in penalty group one, (less than one gram), a state jail felony.

David Lynn Hamilton, 27, possession of a substance in penalty group one, (less than one gram), a state jail felony.

Brigitte Renee Hart, 25, possession of a substance in penalty group one, (less than one gram), a state jail felony.

Leopoldo Vasquez Loredo, 49, possession of a substance in penalty group one, (less than one gram), a state jail felony.

Steven Shae McPherson, 25, possession of a substance in penalty group one, (less than one gram), a state jail felony.

Matthew Charles Miller, 24, driving while intoxicate (3rd or more offense), a third-degree felony.

Jaime Monrreal, Jr., 21, possession of a substance in penalty group one, (less than one gram), a state jail felony.

Wendell Jud Neal, 35, forgery by passing, a state jail felony.

Adam Cody Proa, 28, intoxication assault (with serious bodily injury), a third-degree felony.

Jerome John Randolph, 22, possession of a substance in penalty group one (more than one gram but less than four), a state jail felony.

David Craig Steele, 19, possession of a substance in penalty group one, (less than one gram), a state jail felony.

Caleb Charles Veldhuizen, evading arrest or detention (while using a vehicle), a state jail felony.

Scott Alan Wilkerson, 38, possession of a substance in penalty group one, (less than one gram), a state jail felony.

Kimberly Ann Williamson, 42, possession of a substance in penalty group one, (less than one gram), a state jail felony.
