The full-page color ad placed by the American Wind Energy Association shows steers grazing a very flat pasture with wind generators in the background. There are no rural homesteads, hills, trees, or wildlife in the picture.

While the ad covers the positive benefits of “new income to windy rural communities,” it never mentions the negative impact on property values due to having gigantic wind towers as neighbors. People will think twice about buying land in Erath County if wind towers start appearing on the horizon due to the noise pollution, hunting restrictions, and the loss of scenic vistas.

Landowners concerning leasing their land for wind towers should ask the questions: “Why can’t I discuss the lease agreement details with their friends? What are the wind tower companies trying to hide?”

As the ad shows, wind energy is rural areas with low potential for increasing land values.
