The Cross Timbers Fine Arts Council has flourished since Connie Birdsong first began it in 1980 and averages hosting 15 to 20 events each year.

The organization celebrated 27 years of bringing the arts to Stephenville Friday night and held its annual dinner meeting catered by Hard 8 Barbeque restaurant with a nice turnout for the event despite the rainy weather, which required a relocation to Newman Hall from an individualís home in Morgan Mill.

Three new board members were elected during the meeting. David Castleberry, Jolene Cornish and Dr. Theresa Davidian will serve three-years posts.

Janice Horak was awarded Patron of the Year and was presented a special gift.

Currently, the group has 250 members scattered throughout the city and surrounding areas but Richard Sale, president, said he would like to see that number grow.

"Itís an open ended commitment," Sale said. " Members can be involved as much or as little as they want. Some members just attend events while others volunteer and set up."

Benefits of being a member include; advance notice of all events, tickets to selected events at reduced rates, free tickets to the annual "members only" barbeque, opportunities for advance purchase of tickets, invitations to "members only" events, a tax deduction for membership contribution and the satisfaction of helping to make the arts accessible to all people.

Sale said there are three levels of membership available. A patron membership is $150 and includes four barbeque tickets for next yearís annual meeting and dinner. A coupleís membership is at a cost of $75 and includes two barbeque tickets or an individual can join for a cost of $40 and one barbeque dinner ticket is included.

Anyone interested in joining should call 254-965-6190.
