Special to the E-T

The Erath Youth Board will present a course on Internet safety at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, at the Texas AgriLife Research and Extension Center in Stephenville. Texas AgriLife Specialist Weldon Floyd will help you learn how to fight the battle to protect yourself and your family from online dangers.

Did you know that the chances of your child (under 18 years old) becoming a victim of an online predator is one in three?  If your child is on facebook, do you know whether his or her profile is set to private?  Do you know how to change the setting to private?

These are all issues that will be addressed during the program.Attendees will learn about the types of online predators and where they are most often found, how to be “web smart,” and what the laws and penalties are for online crimes.

There are other threats from phones, cameras, games, Wii, and Xbox that parents and children alike should be aware of, and all of these will be discussed.

In addition to Floyd’s presentation, Erath County 4-H Agent, Megan Logan, will give a “how to” for setting facebook profiles to private.
