After 23 years of service to Dublin ISD, Roy Neff and wife Lynn will have a namesake on the campus they so graciously served.
During Dublin High’s graduation ceremony, School Board President Don Keith announced that the gym will now be known as the Roy and Lynn Neff Gymnasium.
“We wanted some way to honor him (Neff) now, as well as in the future,” said Keith, who also pointed out that Neff began his career in education as a basketball coach and teacher in McAdoo.
The name change was made official last Friday night at the ceremony, but the hanging of the signage, which will include a plaque and a picture of Neff and his wife, will be done at a later date. The board wanted to be able to surprise Neff so they delayed hanging the plaque.
“We were totally surprised,” Neff said. “It is a humbling experience, but we are appreciative of it.”
Neff has served as the superintendent for Dublin ISD for 23 years and will officially retire on June 30, when Shaun Barnett takes the reigns.
