Dr. Ruth Ann Stephens, who has served on the Stephenville Independent School Board for six years, is announcing her re-election campaign for Place 7.

She is being challenged by local businessman Doug McLemore.

Stephens is a life-long resident of Stephenville and graduate of Stephenville High School, Tarleton State University and Texas A&M University. During her career in education, she was both a teacher and principal at Chamberlin Elementary.

“My experiences have given me the knowledge to be an effective school board member,” Stephens said. “For several years, I assisted school boards with superintendent searches, school demographic studies, and student and tax projections for schools and communities.”

Stephens said her in-depth knowledge of school finance is another one of her strengths.

“I am well aware of the number of community members on fixed incomes,” she said. “This knowledge allows me to serve the taxpayers of our community by safeguarding their investment and securing the finest academic programs for our students in the most fiscally responsible manner possible.”

If re-elected, Stephens said she will continue to ensure that the board works with students, faculty and parents “to make our schools as strong as possible.”
