Stephenville police have located the weapon they believe was used in the City Park shooting on Oct. 23.

Police Chief Patrick Bridges said investigators found the .22 rifle Monday in the backyard of a Dublin residence where the suspect formerly lived. Bridges said the suspect's sister, Fabiola Esparza, a Comanche resident, led investigators to the weapon.

"We interviewed (Fabiola) again because we had additional questions for her," Bridges said. "There were inconsistencies in her story."

Bridges said investigators were led to a chicken coop in the backyard of a vacant house.

Meanwhile, Fernando Esparza, 24, remains incarcerated in the Erath County Jail held on a $500,000 bond. He has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Bridges said Esparza is no longer cooperating with the investigation and has asked for an attorney.

His victim, Joel Espinoza, 25, remains hospitalized at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, were he is recovering from four gunshots wounds that left him paralyzed from the waist down.
