When it rains, it pours!

Dr. Darrell Floyd, superintendent of Stephenville schools, wants the public to know they are invited to the Stephenville High School graduation ceremony to be held tonight at 8 at Tarleton’s Memorial Stadium - unless weather is inclement.

Then, Floyd said, the event will be offered to ticket holders only at Tarleton’s Wisdom Gymnasium.

Late Thursday forecasts called for bad weather, Floyd said, and arrangements are in place to move indoors if necessary.

The senior class has 221 students participating and each student received eight tickets for family and friends, Floyd said.

On request each student received five additional tickets. Floyd said security officers will be at the entrances checking tickets and the district has no choice but to turn away those without tickets.

“The fire marshal requirements will not allow us to exceed the seating capacity of the gym,” Floyd said. “Space will be limited and only ticket holders will be allowed in.”

SHS Principal Travis Stilwell said Northland Cable will broadcast the ceremony on Channel 9 if the event has to be moved inside.

Students will practice at 1 p.m. today and Stilwell said an effort will be made to make a decision on the location prior to that point.

Stilwell said the invocation is to be given by Alexandra Goodrich, who is ranked third in the class. She is to be followed by Class President Karson Nance, who will present the class gift to be left to the school. Then salutatorian Clint Doty and valedictorian Caleb Graves will give their speeches.

Stilwell said at that point the Class of 2007 will be presented and diplomas will be passed out.

Anne-Marie Stanphill who is ranked fourth in the class will give the benediction.

“The class of 2007 is an exceptional class,” Stilwell said. “They have excelled both inside and outside of the classroom. The 2006-2007 school year has been filled with success in large part due to the outstanding leadership that has been provided by the senior class.
