The Cross Timbers Ducks Unlimited Committee is perking its ears up and listening for a few good callers.
In an effort to boost membership and attendance at its annual DU banquet, which is held the second Tuesday of September, the group is hosting a duck calling contest at Star Arms on Saturday, Aug. 28, at 2 p.m.
The contest will be divided into two divisions, adult and youth.
"We want to get more youth in the area involved in Ducks Unlimited," DU Chairman Randall Foster said. "As a service to the youth we want to hold this contest and bring more attention to the banquet."
The entry fee for adults is $40 and it includes a ticket to the Sept. 14 banquet. Youth can enter the contest free of charge and gain a free entry into the banquet with a paid adult's ticket.
The top competitors will be asked to squawk their stuff at the banquet with calling demonstrations and an awards ceremony.
The 2010 Ducks Unlimited Banquet will be held Tuesday, Sept. 14, at City Hall at City Limits. Cocktails and registration begins at 6:30 p.m. and dinner begins at 7.
The event includes a silent auction, raffle, live auction and special games.
Early bird tickets, which must be purchased prior to Sept. 7, are $40 for a single and $60 for a couple. Tickets are $50 at the door for a single and $70 for a couple. Youth tickets are $20 pre-sale and at the door.
All ticket prices include an annual membership to Ducks Unlimited.
