The excitement is building.

In just hours, after election polls close and the counting begins, the country will learn who will be the next president of the United States. . Likewise, Erath County residents have a lot to look forward to as well. On today’s ballot are several hotly-contested races including county attorney, commissioner of precinct 1 and Stephenville City Council place 3.

Perhaps more importantly, area residents will learn if they will soon be able to purchase beer and wine locally.

Election watching enthusiasts are already making plans to watch tonight’s returns. Erath County Republicans plan to gather at 6 p.m. at the party’s headquarters, located on the square.

“We will stay open to watch election returns until everybody leaves,” said chairman John Springer.

Meanwhile, Erath County Democrats are making plans of their own. Chairman Tillman Chaplin said the party will gather at Fiddle Creek Steakhouse to watch results together. Reservations are not required and the public is invited to join both groups.
