A homeless buffalo has been claimed.

But its owner has decided that the bison will be sold at auction, Erath County Sheriff Tommy Bryant said.

The 1,000-pound shaggy buffalo was found in September roaming along County Road 265. Bryant contacted Chad Hale who contained the animal and transported it to a temporary home at the Dublin Livestock Auction Barn.

Marla McKinney, auction barn representative, said Monday that the buffalo's public sale is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday at the Dublin Livestock Auction Barn.

McKinney said there have been several calls inquiring about bids.
